Troost-Ekong reacts to George Finidi’s appointment as new Super Eagles coach

William Troost-Ekong has reacted to the appointment of former Super Eagles winger George Finidi as the substantive coach of the senior national team of Nigeria.

Ekong, who spoke in a conversation with Soccernet Managing Editor, Lolade Adewuyi, said that Finidi is a legend who played and achieved so much for Ajax.

According to the captain of the Super Eagles, everyone recognizes the work he (Finidi) did for Enyimba FC last year when he won the league for the club side.

“George Finidi is someone who is a legend. In African football, and Nigerian football, even here in Greece, whenever ex-Nigerian players are mentioned, Finidi’s name always comes up. Especially growing up in Holland, just outside Amsterdam, for someone who played so much for Ajax and achieved so much there, he’s someone I look up to and feel very connected to,” Troost-Ekong told Lolade Adewuyi.

The player stated that he is very happy to see that Finidi had the chance to be the interim head coach of the Super Eagles, and now he is the full-time head coach.

“He is always very humble, too humble for what he has achieved. Everyone recognizes the work he did for Enyimba last year when he won the league. So, for him to now get the chance to be the interim head coach [now the full-time head coach], I am very happy to see that. He’s a great guy,” Troost-Ekong added.
