‘Providing Security for Farmers Crucial to Enhance Food Supply, Price Stability’ – Agric Stakeholders

Stakeholders in the agricultural sector have emphasized the critical need to enhance security on farms to ensure a constant food supply and stable prices.

They pointed out that a safer farming environment would lead to better production, economic stability, and a more reliable food supply.

However, an agricultural consultant, Peter Kolawole, underscored the direct correlation between increased insecurity and rising food prices, highlighting the urgency of addressing this issue.

He emphasized that bolstering security measures not only protects farmers but also strengthens the resilience of the entire food supply chain, benefiting both producers and consumers.

Kolawole warned that failure to address security concerns would perpetuate the upward trajectory of food prices, urging the government to intensify efforts to secure vulnerable farming communities.

Buttressing further, Caleb Usoh, Chief of Staff at OCP Africa, underscored the critical necessity for ongoing support for farmers, particularly in terms of access to inputs and resources.

He emphasized the importance of proactive interventions to improve farmers’ access to inputs ahead of the upcoming farming season.

Usoh stressed that while the effects of these interventions might not be immediately apparent, they are vital for the sustained development of agriculture in the long run.
