WAFU B TOURNAMENT: Garba reacts after Golden Eaglets force Burkina Faso to a goalless draw
The coach of the U-17 team of Nigeria, Manu Garba, has reacted after his team were forced to a goalless draw by their opponents, Burkina Faso, in the Group B opener of the ongoing WAFU B U-17 championship taking place in Ghana.
Garba, who spoke after the match, said that inadequate preparations for the tournament are to blame for the team’s lacklustre performance against Burkina Faso.
He said that the first game against Burkina Faso was the first international game for the Golden Eaglets, while their opponents and the Ghanaian U-17 team were part of a training tour.
Garba said, “The match against Burkina Faso was only the first international game by the team,” he said after the game.
“Burkina Faso were better prepared than us. They went on a playing tour, just like Ghana.
“But hopefully we will get better as the tournament progresses.” The coach added.
However, Garba is upbeat that the Golden Eaglets will keep improving and growing, as the team showed great teamwork and sportsmanship during the game against Burkina Faso.
He said, “We are proud of our team’s performance. Although we didn’t secure the win that we hoped for, our players showed great teamwork and sportsmanship. We look forward to our next match and the opportunity to continue growing and improving.
