Two in Custody Over Death of Vigilante Member

The Lagos State Police Command has announced the arrest of two suspected hoodlums in connection with the death of a vigilante member in the Epe area. The command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday.

The command’s spokesperson reported that the Epe Police Division received a report on Monday around 4:30 p.m. indicating that an Ibile Vigilante member, identified only as Oluwafemi, 45, had been attacked by suspected hoodlums on Friday at approximately 2:00 p.m.

He stated that the hoodlums allegedly attacked the vigilante member at a refuse dump site in Afero Village, Epe, while he was trying to prevent them from scavenging contaminated frozen turkeys. According to the spokesperson, the vigilante member sustained injuries and was taken to Epe General Hospital, where he was treated and discharged. However, on July 15, 2024, around 2:30 p.m., his condition worsened, and he was readmitted to the hospital.

“Doctors on duty fought to save his life, but unfortunately, he passed away. His body has been deposited at the mortuary. The two suspects have been arrested, adding to the 12 already handed over to the task force on Saturday for rummaging contaminated turkeys. The investigation is ongoing,” he said. (NAN)
