Turkish fans give Victor Osimhen rousing welcome after signing loan deal with Galatasaray
Scores of Galatasaray football fans were on hand to give Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen a rousing welcome after he penned a season loan deal to join the Turkish Super Ligue side.
With the Turkish transfer window closing on September 13, the 25-year-old still had a chance to leave Napoli after his failed moves to Chelsea and Saudi pro-league team Al-Ahli.
Later, on Monday night, September 2, Osimhen was fortunate enough to negotiate a loan agreement with Galatasaray that included no buy-back clause and full salary payment from Galatasaray for the duration of the one-year loan.
On his arrival in Turkey, the striker whose release clause will be €75m with Napoli option to extend until 2027 was mobbed by fans of the club who were on hand to see him for the first time.
Recall that at 23:00 on Friday, the European summer transfer window closed, and Osimhen was thought to have finalized his deal to Stamford Bridge before the end of the day.
However, according to Italian football transfer analyst Fabrizio Romano, a Chelsea delegation left Napoli FC after failing to reach an agreement with Osimhen.
The striker was reportedly offered a contract by Chelsea worth €155,000 per week, less than what he is now paid at Napoli, but he refused to accept the wage decrease.
Due to the transfer drama that transpired on deadline day, Osimhen has been left off of Napoli’s match-day squad roster as a result of his failed move to either Chelsea or Al Ahli but the player can now have a breather after sealing his loan move to Galatasaray.
