Troost-Ekong reacts to CAF decision to award Nigeria with 3 goals, 3 points in botched match against Libya
William Troost-Ekong has reacted to the decision by the Confederation of African Football to award and three goals, three points and fined Libya $50,000 for the aborted AFCON 2025 qualifier between the two countries.
The African Football Governing Body (CAF) made the announcement to punish Libya for its unsportsmanlike behavior in a statement that was issued on Saturday afternoon.
Following a careful examination by the Disciplinary Committee, the decision, which carries a $50,000 punishment, firmly establishes Nigeria’s standing in the qualifiers.
Troost-Ekong responded to the news on his official Twitter account, praising the CAF verdict and pointing out that the Super Eagles are getting closer to AFCON 2025.
Nigeria’s choice to decline to play Libya in the second leg AFCON qualifier was justified, which pleased Troost-Ekong, who has been considered for the CAF Player of the Year award.
“JUSTICE: CAF awards three points and three goals to Nigeria. Libya fined $50,000,” he wrote on Twitter.
“Plane was diverted 300km from the scheduled airport even when the pilot told them he was low on fuel. One step closer to our target AFCON 2025.” Troost-Ekong added.
