Tinubu Urges African Militaries to Unite Against Insecurity
President Bola Tinubu called on African militaries to unite against insecurity and threats to continental unity and stability, speaking at the Africa Military Games in Abuja.
President Bola Tinubu emphasized the imperative of collective action among African militaries to combat insecurity, terrorism and instability. Represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima at the second Africa Military Games (AMGA), Tinubu stressed that no single nation can tackle its security challenges alone.
“Our collective safety and well-being demand unity,” Tinubu said. “We must stand together as one Africa.”
The AMGA, themed “Enhancing Military Cooperation in Africa through Sports,” brought together 1,625 athletes and officials from across the continent. Tinubu praised the event’s revival, initiated over 20 years ago in Nairobi, Kenya.
This occasion transcends athletic competition; it symbolizes cooperation among Africa’s military institutions,” Tinubu noted. “Today, we reaffirm our commitment to collective security and unity.”
Tinubu commended Chief of Defense Staff Gen. Christopher Musa and Organisation of Military Sports in Africa President Maj.-Gen. Maikano Abdullahi for their leadership.
Gen. Musa emphasized the games’ significance in showcasing military athletes’ prowess and fostering continental unity. “This event celebrates our physical strength, cooperation and friendship,” he said.
The games feature various sporting events, promoting sportsmanship, camaraderie and collaboration among African militaries. Conversely, participants were urged to embody these values throughout the competition and that, by promoting unity and cooperation, the AMGA aims to enhance Africa’s collective security efforts, addressing common challenges and ensuring stability across the continent.
