Thiago Silva set to leave Chelsea as free agent at the end of the season
Ageing Brazilian defender Thiago Silva will leave English Premier League (EPL) club Chelsea FC as free agent at the end of the season when his contract expires with the club.
The player’s decision to leave at the end of the season has been made and will be confirmed soon after he rejected proposals in January to stay and help Chelsea until the end.
Reports say Thiago is keeping all options open for his future to consider the best step as his next club, with Brazilian club Fluminense showing interest in the player’s services.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the 39-year-old player plans to return to Chelsea one day in a non-playing role to be part of the club.
‘‘He loves #CFC and London; the same is true for his family and kids in the academy.
‘‘Silva had an important proposal from abroad in January, but he rejected it to help Chelsea until the end,’’ Romano wrote on his X handle.
The defender arrived on a free transfer from PSG in the year 2020 and has since made 151 appearances for Chelsea. During his tenure at Stamford Bridge, he has won the UEFA Super Cup, Club World Cup, and Champions League.
