Super Falcons can make a podium finish at Paris 2024 Olympics —Tunde Popoola
Tunde Popoola, the Secretary General of the Nigeria Olympics Committee (NOC) has declared that the Super Falcons of Nigeria can make a podium finish at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
In a chat with NFF TV, Popoola stated that the team can pull through despite the quality of opposition that the Super Falcons have been pitched with at the Olympics.
He disclosed that the Super Falcons have a strong team and are tipping them for a medal and also said that he expects medals in athletics, weightlifting, and wrestling.
“We have a strong football team, I will tip them for a medal,” Popoola boasted.
“Also we should expect medals in athletics, weightlifting, and wrestling.
“We will surprise Nigerians with a bag of medals.”
This comes days after newly signed Paris Saint-Germain player, Jennifer Echegini told their opponents ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics not to underestimate the Super Falcons.
Echegini, in a recent interview, said that the Super Falcons will show their class against group opponents Spain, Japan, and Brazil.
Teams tend to underestimate the Super Falcons, assuming our football ability is only based on strength and speed.
“I feel like as a Nigeria or any other African team, they underestimate our football ability, and they kind of just base us off strength and speed,” Echegini told Beats and Rhymes FC
Jennifer stated further that it is kind of funny when people say the Super Falcons are just about speed and strength because most of the players have a background in English and Dutch football.
She said; ”It’s always ‘Oh they are strong and powerful’, but we can also play.”
“I feel like a lot of times, teams don’t expect that, and they’ll be surprised when we start playing around them. I prefer if they don’t expect it because it makes things easier for us, but whenever I hear people talking about Nigeria, it’s always ‘strong’ or ‘fast’, and I’m like, “We’re not just that, you know?”
