Sports Minister urges NFF to employ foreign coach for Super Eagles
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has been instructed by Minister of Sports John Enoh to employ a foreign coach for the Super Eagles that will make practically every Nigerian proud.
John Enoh pleaded with the NFF to make sure the future coach of the Super Eagles has the background necessary to earn the respect of the players on the national team.
The sports minister pleaded with the NFF to name a top-tier coach for the Super Eagles amid their difficult 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification process in an interview with Eagle7 FM.
He said; “The Super Eagles need a coach with pedigree and a track record of achievements. We need someone who can propel us towards winning the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and ensure our qualification for the 2026 World Cup.”
“It has to be a name that will inspire the spirit of our nation.
“He has to be a first-class coach with a track record, a pedigree, who will earn the respect of our players.”
Recall two weeks ago that Finidi George stepped down as the coach of the Super Eagles following poor results in the 2026 World Cup qualifying games against South Africa and Benin Republic.
The coach is said to have decided to step down after the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) announced plans to hire a foreign technical adviser.
The resignation of Finidi who made his debut for Nigeria in 1991, in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Burkina Faso was confirmed by former Eagles media officer, Toyin Ibitoye, on his X account.
