Spanish embassy denies Future Eagles visas to partake in UEFA tournament
The Spanish embassy has denied the Nigerian U-15 boys, known as the Future Eagles, visas to participate in the forthcoming UEFA U-16 Development Tournament.
A source claims that the Spanish embassy made the decision because it didn’t believe that all of the players brought for the trip were under 15.
On Monday, April 8, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) released a formal statement through its official channels revealing the Spanish embassy’s visa denial.
‘‘Players and officials of the Nigeria U15 team, Future Eagles, have been denied visas by the Spanish Embassy and will therefore not be travelling to take part in the UEFA U16 Development Tournament starting on Friday.’’ NFF tweeted.
The special invitation, which has now been denied by the Spanish embassy, was extended because of Nigeria’s exceptional young football record, with the country having produced five world champions at the U17 boys’ level and two U20 final appearances in the FIFA World Cup.
The Future Eagles practised at the Remo Stars Sports Institute in Ikenne for a week to prepare for the tournament. During that time, they played two games against Beyond Limits FC, the Remo Stars’ U16 team, winning one and losing the other.
