Southampton’s coach praises Joe Aribo’s contribution to club’s promotion push
Russell Martin, the head coach of English Championship side Southampton, has praised the contributions of Super Eagles midfielder in his team’s push to return to the premiership.
The coach, who spoke glowingly about the player’s contribution this season, said that Aribo has been excellent since he came back from the AFCON staged in Ivory Coast.
According to him, Aribo is a top player but it took him a while to get up to speed for his club side when he got back because he hadn’t played for the team for three or four weeks.
Martin said, “He has been excellent. He hasn’t played a huge amount of minutes since he came back from the AFCON but he has been excellent,” the gaffer told the club’s official website.
“It was a huge amount of minutes for him in the last few games. Joe is a top player. It took him a while when he got back because he hadn’t played for three or four weeks at AFCON.
”He had a brilliant tournament with some fantastic experiences, but he came back and took a while to get back up to speed.” The coach added.
Aribo, who cost £6 million in addition to add-ons when he transferred from Rangers FC of Scotland to Southampton, has scored three goals in 31 league games this season for his team.
