Ronaldo Sets New Benchmark in Saudi Pro League Scoring

Cristiano Ronaldo has set a new milestone in the Saudi Pro League by breaking the record for the most goals in a single season, scoring his 34th and 35th goals during Al Nassr’s final game of the campaign.

The 39-year-old Portuguese forward, known for his remarkable career at Real Madrid and Manchester United, tweeted, “I don’t follow the records, the records follow me,” after the historic achievement. Ronaldo netted his first goal in first-half stoppage time and added a second with a header in the 69th minute, helping Al Nassr secure a 4-2 victory over Al Ittihad at home on Monday.

This record surpasses the previous mark set by Moroccan striker Abderrazak Hamdallah, who scored 34 goals during the 2018-19 season. Despite Ronaldo’s prolific season, Al Nassr finished second in the league, trailing champions Al Hilal by 14 points.

Ronaldo joined Al Nassr in December 2022, part of a wave of international stars joining the Saudi league on lucrative contracts. His impact has been significant, not just in terms of goals but also in raising the league’s profile globally.

In addition to his club success, Ronaldo continues to shine on the international stage. He has been selected for Portugal’s squad for the upcoming UEFA European Championship in Germany, marking his 11th major international tournament. Ronaldo is the most capped player in men’s international football with 206 appearances and holds the record for the most international goals, with 128 to his name.
