‘Prioritising Food Security, “Stomach Infrastructure’ Crucial – Former President Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has stressed the importance of prioritising food security, particularly the concept of “stomach infrastructure.”

He made these remarks during the unveiling of 136 housing units acquired by the Sokoto state government for N1.820 billion. These units are intended for low-income earners and other citizens in need of shelter.

However, Obasanjo praised Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto for his efforts in addressing various issues such as food security, transportation, road construction, agriculture, and housing projects. He compared the governor’s dedication to the strength and resilience of a stallion horse.

“Your strong, energetic, and resilient qualities in leadership have made you get it all within the space of time of your one year. Putting all these in place will surely brighten your chances of seeking a second-term mandate without stress,” Obasanjo expressed optimism.

The former president also applauded Senator Aliyu Wamakko and Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar for their significant contributions to the development of the state, praising Wamakko as a good political mentor and the Sultan as a role model in the caliphate.

Earlier, Governor Aliyu Sokoto explained that the numerous housing projects align with his campaign promises to deliver human-oriented initiatives that improve the welfare and standards of living for people in the state.

He highlighted that the state government has invested heavily in building and completing various projects across the state, including road constructions, empowerment programs, water and agricultural inputs for farmers, and equipping hospitals.

“We are determined to continue developing the state for proper repositioning and providing state-of-the-art adjoining facilities at all sites, including Islamiyya schools, markets, and playgrounds, among others,” the Governor stated.
