President Tinubu Issues 48-Hour Deadline for New Minimum Wage Proposal

President Bola Tinubu has directed the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, to present the cost implications of the proposed new minimum wage within 48 hours.

This urgent directive was announced by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, during a press briefing at the State House.

Following a meeting with the negotiation team at Aso Rock, Idris conveyed the President’s commitment to swiftly addressing the wage issue. He stated, “All parties to the negotiation of the new minimum wage would work together with the organised labour to present a new minimum wage for Nigerians in one week. All of us will work together assiduously within the next one week to ensure that we have a new wage for Nigeria that is acceptable, sustainable and also realistic.”

This development comes in the wake of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) calling off their nationwide strike, which began on Monday. The strike has been suspended for one week to allow further negotiations with the Federal Government.
