Ogun State House of Assembly Summons OGSIEC Over Controversial Administrative Fees for LG Polls

The Ogun State House of Assembly has formally invited the Chairman and members of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) to appear before the lawmakers on September 3, 2024.

The invitation is in response to the controversy surrounding the administrative fees announced by OGSIEC for political parties participating in the upcoming local government elections.

According to reports, OGSIEC Chairman Babatunde Osibodu announced that political parties would be required to pay N250,000 for chairmanship candidates, N150,000 for male councillorship candidates, and N100,000 for female councillorship candidates. The fees have sparked widespread outrage among political parties, who have described them as exorbitant and unacceptable.

The Assembly’s invitation, issued by Speaker Oludaisi Elemide, seeks a comprehensive explanation from OGSIEC regarding its activities and preparations for the elections, scheduled for November 16, 2024. The move follows a presentation by Minority Leader Lukman Adeleye, who raised concerns about the fees and their potential impact on the electoral process.
