Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, Holds Meeting with Transporters on Fair Pricing Amid Fuel H

In response to the recent fuel price increase, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, convened a meeting with the union of transporters to discuss fair pricing for transportation.

The meeting aimed to address the issue of transporters charging exorbitant fares, often exceeding 2000% of the fuel price increase.

Governor Abiodun emphasized that the fare increase should be commensurate with the fuel price rise, stating, “If pump prices have changed by 25 to 30%, we should see a difference in transport fare that is not more than 25 or 30%.”

He also highlighted the need to explore alternative fuel sources, which are cheaper. In a video on the Governor’s official X platform where he was seen dialoguing with the union of transporters. He shared plans, both national and local, that are underway to cushion the effect of the fuel price increase.

“To mitigate the impact of the fuel price hike on citizens, the Ogun State Government is providing 100 new CNG buses to transport unions, with an additional 20 buses from the Federal Government expected to be available from next week. Furthermore, 500 conversion kits will be received from the Federal Government within the next five days” he said.

Governor Abiodun assured that the Federal and State Governments are working “hand-in-glove” to minimize the effects of the fuel price increase.

In the meantime, he proposed an agreement with transport stakeholders to fix transport prices in Ogun State and establish a taskforce to ensure compliance. The taskforce to be spearheaded by the Police Department and State Government Security Service, will be present at motor parks to ensure implementation and absolute compliance.
