Ogun State Farmers Receive Training on Agribusiness Best Practices

The Federal Government, Ogun State Government, and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) have partnered to train farmers in Yewa South Local Government Area. The one-day training program, held in Ilaro on Tuesday, focused on modern System of Rice Intensification (SRI) and Climate Smart Agriculture Practice (CSAP) techniques.

Agricultural expert Joshua Adeniyi emphasized the benefits of adopting SRI, including increased yields, reduced water requirements, and enhanced profitability. He encouraged farmers to leverage these innovative skills to boost their agro-business.

Engineer Williams Akinwunmi from IFAD highlighted the impact of climate change on rural infrastructure and emphasized the importance of mitigating its effects through CSAP. He urged farmers to adopt eco-friendly practices, such as reduced greenhouse gas emissions, minimal fertilizer application, and effective water management.

Farmers who attended the training expressed appreciation for the initiative, pledging to adopt the new techniques to improve their crop yields and contribute to food sustainability. Emmanuel Bankole, a rice farmer, commended the government for its efforts in providing training and improving crop varieties. Omowunmi Ige, a cassava farmer, appreciated the organizers for equipping them with improved agricultural systems to enhance their socio-economic well-being.
