Ogun Peace Summit Ignites Bold Moves for Security and Youth Empowerment in Sagamu, Remo

A landmark Peace Summit, orchestrated by the Remo Growth Development and Foundation (RGDF), alongside the Peace Initiative Network (PIN) kick-started today, 4th of June, 2024. This pivotal event, aimed at galvanizing security and youth empowerment, brought together a host of esteemed dignitaries and community leaders.

Ably represented was His Royal Majesty Oba Dr. Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, the Akarigbo of Remoland. The summit saw the attendance of notable figures including Otunba Seni Adetu, Chairman of RemoGDF; Col. Dele Oyefuga (Rtd), Chairman of Security Matters, RGDF; Hon. Mrs. Ronke Soyombo; AIG Olusola Subaru (Rtd); ACP Alao Shehu, Area Commander, Sagamu Police Area Command; Ibida Odili Jane; Mr. Ola Barnabas, Public Speaker and Peace Builder; Comr Yinka Folarin; The Eleposo of Eposo, The Radanuwa of Idado, The Ologijo of Ogijo alongside several Kings across RemoLand. Quite a number of Chairmen of Community Development Associations in Remo, youth leaders from Shagamu, Ishara, and across Remoland were also present.

The summit, led by Dr. Michael Olufemi Sodipo, Project Coordinator of PIN, tackled crucial security and developmental issues facing the community. Founded in 2004 in Kano State, PIN has been instrumental in fostering peace and security. The RGDF’s mission to create a distinctive identity for the Remo brand aligns with its efforts to enhance community security and empower the youth through sports and collaborations with NGOs.

Speakers such as Hon. Mrs. Ronke Soyombo and Col. Dele Oyefuga addressed key security challenges, including the need for local youths to embrace employment opportunities and the call for frequent rotation of Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to curb corruption and improve efficiency. Concerns about rogue police officers were met with strong recommendations for systemic changes to ensure accountability.

The summit concluded with a collective commitment to actionable solutions to tackle security related issues. However, the Peace Summit resumes tomorrow, focusing on youth empowerment and furthering the mission to build a safer, more prosperous Remoland.
