Nuno Espirito Santo provides update on Taiwo Awoniyi’s injury status
Nuno Espirito Santo, the coach of English Premier League (EPL) side Nottingham Forest, has delivered an update on the injury status of Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi.
Despite making a recovery in January, Awoniyi has failed to reach full fitness, which has led to sporadic appearances. This season, he has experienced setbacks as a result of a groin operation intended to solve a recurring condition.
While speaking about the condition of the player ahead of Nottingham Forest’s upcoming game against Crystal Palace, Santo said that Awoniyi’s injury is serious.
“He is doing treatment. It is a serious injury, unfortunately,” Nuno said. “It is a big blow for us because he had just come back [from an injury spell]. The importance of Taiwo is huge. He gives us another option.”
The coach could not also offer information about the return date of Awoniyi who has scored six goals and provided three more assists for his club this season.
“I don’t know exactly how long he will be out for, but I am positive we are going to see him again this season. He will definitely miss these two games.” Nuno added.
