NIMC Records Milestone: Issues 105 Million NINs, Sets Ambitious Enrollment Target

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has reached a significant milestone by issuing 105 million National Identification Numbers (NINs) to Nigerian citizens and legal residents. With a goal to encompass the country’s entire population of over 200 million by 2026, the commission aims to expedite its enrollment process.

Kayode Adegoke, the Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC, made this announcement during an interview on X Space over the weekend. Adegoke assured the public of the commission’s commitment to achieving its enrollment target within the next one to two years.

He emphasized the commission’s efforts to streamline the modification and enrollment procedures under the leadership of Director-General Abisoye Coker. Adegoke highlighted the introduction of a self-service platform as a notable improvement. This platform allows Nigerians, both at home and abroad, to modify their NIN data remotely without the need to physically visit NIMC centers. Through the platform, individuals can easily update their names, dates of birth, email addresses, phone numbers, and other details from the comfort of their homes or offices, using either iOS or Android-based devices.

Adegoke noted the efficiency of the self-service portal, stating that all modifications are now processed within 24-48 hours, a significant improvement from the previous lengthy waiting periods. He distinguished between the mobile app, which serves for identification and linking mobile numbers to NINs, and the self-service portal, which is exclusively dedicated to data modification and unavailable on the app.
