Nigeria to Experience 3-Day Thunderstorms and Rains, NiMet Warns

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted a three-day period of thunderstorms and rains across the country, starting from Wednesday.

According to NiMet’s weather outlook, released on Tuesday in Abuja, the northern region will experience thunderstorms over parts of Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Yobe, Katsina, Sokoto, and Kaduna States during the morning hours on Wednesday. Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected to affect Kano, Borno, Katsina, Adamawa, Kaduna, Taraba, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Jigawa States.

In the North Central region, thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, and Niger States during the morning hours. Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected to affect the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, Niger, and Kwara States.

The southern region will experience thunderstorms over parts of Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ogun, Ondo, Lagos, Edo, Delta, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States during the morning hours. Intermittent rains are predicted over parts of Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Anambra, Edo, Ekiti, Oyo, Rivers, Cross River, Delta, and Akwa Ibom States later in the day.

NiMet has also predicted thunderstorms and rains for Thursday and Friday, with varying intensities across the country. The agency has advised residents to avoid flood-prone areas due to the high likelihood of urban flooding in major cities. Strong winds may precede the rains in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur.

Airline operators have been urged to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet for effective planning in their operations.

Residents have been advised to take necessary precautions to avoid accidents and damage to properties.
