Niger State Government Embarks on Agricultural Fact-Finding Mission to Ogun State

On a mission to bolster food security and agricultural development, a high-level delegation from the Niger State Government, led by Special Adviser on Social Investment Programmes, Hauwa Bako, recently visited Soilless Farm Labs in Ogun State.

The visit aimed to uncover innovative agricultural solutions and best practices, with a focus on soilless farming. According to Special Adviser to the Governor on Digital Media and Strategy, Abdullberqy Usman Ebbo, “The visit was one of the strategies of the state to become one of Nigeria’s leading agricultural hubs, exploring innovative practices such as soilless farming to achieve the planned goal.”

During the visit, the team inspected state-of-the-art facilities, engaged with training participants, and held productive discussions with partners involved in the Enterprise for Youth in Agriculture. The delegation also met with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who commended Governor Mohammed Umar Bago’s agricultural revolution policy, saying, “Until Nigeria begins to feed itself, the challenges facing the country will continue. A nation that cannot feed itself is sitting on a time bomb.”

Obasanjo further advised, “Other state governors should emulate Niger State’s lead in agricultural development to ensure the country is able to feed its population, thereby exporting food to boost its GDP.” He also encouraged the Niger State government to sustain investments in agriculture.

This visit comes on the heels of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s recognition of Soilless Farm Labs’ CEO as a model for youth empowerment, employing over 1,000 staff on his farm, during the International Youth Day program in Iperu Remo on August 12, 2024.
