NFF favours foreigner over local coach for vacant Super Eagles job

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) favours a foreign coach over a local handler to become the next coach of the Super Eagles following the departure of Jose Peseiro.

This much was revealed by a source who told the Daily Trust that most members of the technical committee favour the appointment of a foreign coach over the employment of a local gaffer.

The source also disclosed that it will take some time before the next Super Eagles coach is chosen, but he believes that the committee will make its recommendation to the NFF in favour of a foreign coach.

“No coach for the Super Eagles will be announced tomorrow (today), as our main agenda is to parley with Manu Garba on his new role as the U17 coach and discuss what we expect from him ahead of next month’s WAFU B U17 Championship. He will also have to tell us his programmes for the team.

“Also, we won’t be announcing Super Eagles coach tomorrow. It is not our responsibility, but I can tell you that most members of the committee want a foreign coach for the Super Eagles.

“I believe the committee will make its recommendation to the NFF along this line, but they will take the final decision,” the member said, pleading not to be named. This comes after reports revealed that seasoned Spanish coach Domenec Torrent, one of Pep Guardiola’s longest-serving assistants, and ex-Super Eagles winger Emmanuel Amuneke are reportedly in a two-horse race for the job.

The pair are, according to reports, the leading contenders in contention to occupy the role of new Super Eagles coach, which became vacant following Peseiro’s decision to pitch his tent elsewhere.
