Argentina-born coach Mauricio Pochettino has been appointed as the new coach of the United States male national team as a replacement for Gregg Berhalter who was relieved of his duties as head coach of the team in July.
Reports say Pochettino who was sacked by Chelsea at the end of the 2023/24 season was offered the plum job after contacts with several managers who wanted to become the new USMNT manager.
The former Chelsea and Spurs head coach said yes to the proposal and project, as per reports and he is now set to lead the US to the next World Cup which will be staged in 2026.
The 52-year-old has succeeded at the club level, winning Ligue 1 with Paris Saint-Germain and making an unprecedented Champions League final appearance with Tottenham in 2019.
Recall that in May, Pochettino surprisingly parted ways with Chelsea by mutual consent, despite guiding the club to a sixth-place finish in the English Premier League (EPL).
Pochettino’s departure was confirmed in a statement issued by Chelsea Directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, who both wished the coach all the very best in his future coaching career.
