Man City player Rodri states why he thinks he was crowned 2024 Ballon d’Or winner
Injured Manchester City midfield player Rodrigo Hernández Cascante popularly known by many as Rodri has explained why he thinks he was crowned 2024 Ballon d’Or winner.
Recall that Rodri who won the Euro 2024 tournament with Spain, where he was adjudged Player of the Tournament and also won the Premier League last season with Manchester City for a record fourth time in a row, was named the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner.
Many football pundits were shocked to learn that Rodri had won the coveted individual award, defeating Real Madrid winger, Vinicius Junior, a favourite among fans.
While attempting to explain why he was selected as the winner, Rodri said that he was picked ahead of others because he was the most consistent player over time.
“I think I won the Ballon d’Or because I’ve been consistent. It’s the most difficult skill in football.
“I think I’ve been the most regular player in the world this year, yes.” He told @partidazocope.
Rodri, who is anticipated to miss the remainder of the English Premier League season due to injury, likened Erling Haaland to Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
“The most decisive player in the world in terms of numbers is Erling Haaland.
“He’s the only player who could come close to Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
“He is also very young and will be there for many years.” The reliable player added.
