Kano Govt Begins Drafting of Comprehensive Climate Change Policy Document
The Kano State Watershed Erosion and Climate Change Development Agency, in partnership with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, has initiated the development of a comprehensive climate change policy for the state.
This endeavour coincides with the second stakeholders and technical validation session, which focuses on eight thematic areas, including afforestation, land use management, health, water resources, and education.
Dr. Muhammad S. Khalil, the Executive Secretary, emphasised the policy’s objective to address climate change and mitigate its environmental impacts through a collaborative effort involving various stakeholders.
The ultimate goal is to reduce the effects of climate change and greenhouse gas emissions. Following the validation workshop, the final draft will be presented to the House of Assembly for approval, and stakeholders will be engaged to design an action plan for effective implementation.
The initiative has received positive feedback from stakeholders, who view it as a vital step towards environmental protection and a sustainable future.
