It would mean the world to me to play for Nigeria at the World Cup —Maduka Okoye
Super Eagles and Udinese FC goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has declared that it would mean the world to him to play for Nigeria at the forthcoming World Cup in 2026.
Okoye who made the remarks in a chat with the Italian media stated that it is up to him and his teammates in the Super Eagles to ensure that Nigeria qualifies for the next World Cup.
He stated that though Nigeria is in a precarious situation after drawing two and losing one of their World Cup qualifying games, his teammates are upbeat about their chances of qualification.
“Yeah, like you said, we are in a difficult situation right now. But when we all meet up in the national team camp, it’s a great vibe—family vibes. I’m sure that we will get to our goal,” Okoye said in an interview with Italian Football Podcast.
“We have a new coach, so we are looking forward to what’s coming. It would mean the world [to play for Nigeria at the World Cup]. ”
Okoye who was born in Düsseldorf, to an Igbo Nigerian father and a German mother also talked about his dream of playing in the UEFA Champions League one day.
“For sure to one day play in the Champions League. I mean, this is what we dream of growing up; this is the number one target.
