Food Prices Will  Soon Crash, Customs Assures Nigerians

The Nigerian Customs Services has assured protesters that a drastic reduction in food prices is imminent, as imported food items arrive in the country and will be cleared without duties and taxes.

Comptroller-General Bashir Adeniyi stated, “The protest was premised on ending hunger… We believe that when this is implemented, it will help bring down prices of food items in the markets.”

Adeniyi emphasized the government’s efforts to cushion the effects of importation costs by suspending customs duties and taxes on food items. He assured Nigerians that the Customs Service is committed to implementing this policy, but urged patience and consideration for all stakeholders’ interests.

“The president has done this to cushion the effect of the cost of importation… We are committed to the implementation of this particular fiscal policy as enunciated by the government,” Adeniyi said.

Nigerians are encouraged to remain patient as the government works to provide relief from the prevailing food crisis.
