Firm Launches, Distributes ‘Home Farming for All’ Kits in Kwara
In a bid to address food insecurity, Zenith Energy Enzymes, an eco-conscious organization, has launched the distribution of “Home Farming For All” kits in the Ekiti/Isin/Irepodun/Oke-Ero constituency of Kwara State.
At the launch event in Omu-Aran, Edith Anekwe, Managing Director of Zenith Energy Enzymes, highlighted that this initiative, motivated by President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency on food security, is the first of its kind in the country.
Anekwe stressed that home farming could help residents avoid the dangers posed by herdsmen attacks, which have forced many farmers to abandon their land and contributed to rising food prices.
“At the inception of this administration, the President committed to declaring a state of emergency on food security,” Anekwe said.
“The First Lady, Remi Tinubu also introduced a home farming program to encourage everyone to embrace home cultivation. To support this initiative, we developed a kit that enables every household to grow their own food.
The kits include organic fertilizers as well as seeds that can be planted in containers such as sacks and buckets.
“When everyone starts farming, the price of food drops automatically,” Anekwe added.
The organization plans to employ 1,000 extension officers to train residents on successful home farming practices.
Federal House of Representatives member for Ekiti/Isin/Irepodun/Oke-Ero, Hon. Raheem Olawuyi, who supported the program, noted that it aims to tackle the pressing issue of high food costs in the constituency by promoting self-sufficiency in food production.
“Through this program, we envision a future where every household can produce its own food, ensuring sustainability and resilience against economic challenges,” he said.
Olawuyi also mentioned that the initiative aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, which prioritizes agricultural development as a key driver of national growth and self-reliance.
