Finidi George Outlines Strategy for Super Eagles to Overcome Benin Republic in WCQ

As the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers progress, Super Eagles coach Finidi George has expressed his team’s determination to secure a victory against the Cheetahs of Benin Republic.

The match, which is set to take place at the Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, kicks off at 5 p.m. Nigerian time on Monday.

The Super Eagles find themselves fifth in Group C, having drawn their first three matches against Lesotho, Zimbabwe, and South Africa, all ending in 1-1 stalemates. The Nigerian team is under pressure to improve their standing and secure crucial points.

During a press conference in Abidjan on Sunday, Coach Finidi George emphasized the importance of approaching the game with a serious mindset. Reflecting on their previous draw against South Africa, Finidi highlighted the lessons learned and the team’s readiness to deliver a strong performance.

“We are going to approach the game with every seriousness. The match against South Africa, that is gone. We have learnt from it. We just have to get ourselves to have that fantastic second half that we had [against South Africa],” said Finidi. “If we can start that way tomorrow [now today], I think we have a chance.”

The game against Benin Republic is crucial for Nigeria’s qualification hopes, and a win would significantly boost their chances of progressing in the qualifiers.
