FIFA sends congratulatory message to Super Falcons on Olympic qualification
The world football governing body, FIFA, has sent a congratulatory message to the Super Falcons of Nigeria following the team’s qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Recall that the Nigerian women’s national team performed admirably well against the South African Banyana Banyana in the second leg of their most recent qualifying round match on Tuesday night at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria.
The West African women’s soccer team ended a sixteen-year drought to qualify for the Olympics by holding the defending African champions to a 0-0 tie and winning 1-0 overall.
The Super Falcons will now compete against Brazil, Spain, and Japan during the games, which will take place in a few months, after earning a spot in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
While reacting to the team’s qualification, FIFA wrote on their X handle: ”Congratulations.”
In other news, Zambia also advanced to the Olympics, winning the second leg on Tuesday and going through on a 3+2 aggregate score after defeating Morocco 2-0.
