Federal Government Launches Subsidized Rice Program for Public Servants

The Federal Government has introduced a subsidized rice program for public servants in an effort to mitigate the ongoing food crisis. A 50kg bag of rice will be sold at a reduced price of N40,000 to interested staff members in Abuja.

According to a letter from the Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs, participants must complete a Google form on the OHCSF website, https://www.ohcsf.gov.ng, and submit it for endorsement. Designated offices will oversee payment and distribution, with the chairman of the Joint Union Council ensuring transparency throughout the process.

The program is designed to support public servants who have been affected by the rising cost of food and other essential items. By providing subsidized rice, the government aims to help reduce the financial burden on its employees and ensure that they can continue to provide essential services to the public.

Similar centers have been established nationwide, offering 50kg bags of rice at the same subsidized rate. The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Muhammed Idris, has stated that this initiative is one of several measures being implemented by the Tinubu administration to ease living conditions for citizens.

The government has assured that the program will be implemented in a transparent and fair manner, with each staff member entitled to purchase only one bag. However, two or more staff members can jointly pay for a bag and share it among themselves. The program is expected to commence soon, and public servants are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to purchase subsidized rice.
