Falconets decimate Venezuela 4-0, qualify for knockout stage of 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup
Nigeria’s Falconets defeated Venezuela 4-0 in their last Group D match on Saturday, securing their spot in the round of 16 of the 2024 FIFA U-20 women’s World Cup.
The Women U-20 team’s advancement into the round of 16 (knockout stage) was guaranteed with goals from Amina Bello, Joy Igbokwe, Flourish Sebastine, and Chiamaka Ukwuchukwu.
The Falconets knew going into the match that an easy victory would ensure their spot in the first round of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. This is the tenth time that West African teams have advanced this far in the competition.
After the Falconets’ thrilling victory over the South Americans on Saturday night, head coach Chris Danjuma gave his players high marks for their effort.
“It’s a fantastic feeling, and we don’t want to just win but also to play good football,” Danjuma told FIFA.com.
“We have a lot of talents that we want the world to see and this is an opportunity to see those talents because 90% of them are from the local league, they are not professionals coming from anywhere in Europe.”
