Enugu Rangers win eighth NPFL title with one game left to play
The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) year 2023–24 has been won by Enugu Rangers.
With one game remaining, the Enugu team is raising the national championship for the ninth time.
In Enugu on Sunday, the Flying Antelopes defeated Bendel Insurance 2-0 to take the lead in the league.
Rangers took the lead in the 33rd minute thanks to a goal from Kenechukwu Agu, and 25 minutes from time, Chidiebere Nwobodo doubled the lead.
After falling to Sunshine Stars 2-1 in Akure, second-place Remo Stars’ chances of capturing their first NPFL championship were dashed.
Enyimba, which finished third in the championship race, was also defeated 2-1 by Sporting Lagos.
Godwin Odibo gave Sporting Lagos the lead after 45 minutes. Five minutes from time, Jonathan Alukwu scored the game’s winning goal. Enyimba’s Chijioke Mbaoma equalized in the 73rd minute from the penalty spot.
