Emmanuel Petit explains why Arsenal must sign Victor Osimhen this summer
Former France international midfielder Emmanuel Petit has explained why English Premier League (EPL) side Arsenal must sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen this summer.
The Arsenal legend who gave his explanation in a chat with talkSPORT said that he would love his former club to sign Osimhen because he is a player who can hold defenders.
He said that Osimhen would be an ideal signing for Arsenal as he can attack the spaces behind defenders and can be a big threat to defenders with his physical presence.
“I would love to see a player like Osimhen, for example, as a striker,” the Frenchman told talkSPORT.
“Someone who can hold defenders and think differently in terms of attacking the spaces behind the defenders and being a big threat on set pieces. A physical presence as well, but someone who can speak the same football.
“I’ve been watching him since he was at Lille before he left for Napoli and it would fit perfectly for Arsenal.”
“I don’t know if Arsenal are going to buy him, but the first thing that they need is a striker.”
Petit’s comments come days after Arsenal FC asked Italian Serie A club Napoli to lower their asking price for lethal Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen.
Although Aurelio de Laurentiis, the president of Napoli, is eager to sell Osimhen in the summer, he is waiting for a team that can afford the substantial €130 million (£110.8 million) release clause.
Osimhen is eager to stay in Europe, but Saudi Pro League clubs could afford such a big sum even as the Serie A club has not received any serious approaches thus far.
Arsenal have now made it clear to Napoli that they are not going to meet Osimhen’s €130 million price tag due to the cost involved, even though they rate him highly.
