‘Embrace Backyard Farming to Cope With Increasing Cost of Living,’ Anambra First Lady Urges Women
Dr. Nonye Soludo, wife of the Anambra State Governor, has stressed the importance of home or backyard garden practices to help families cope with the increasing cost of living.
She emphasized that these gardens can improve families’ food supplies and encourage healthier food choices.
Soludo, who is also the founder of the Healthy Living Initiative, shared this advice during a meeting with the Anambra State Female Farmers and Businesswomen in Awka. She highlighted how home gardens have historically provided a reliable source of nutrition and reduced dependence on expensive commercial food products.
According to Soludo, the promotion of home or backyard gardens aligns with the state government’s agricultural agenda and encourages families to have easier access to healthier alternatives while cutting down on living costs.
She encouraged households without enough land for traditional farming to consider sack farming, which is cost-effective and space-efficient.
Soludo’s Healthy Living campaign aims to raise awareness about the importance of healthy eating habits and promote a culture of nutritious food consumption among families in Anambra.
On her part, Esther Onyekesi, leader of the Anambra State Female Farmers and Businesswomen, emphasized the significant role of women in food production and urged them to engage in backyard farming to enhance food security. She also commended the governor’s wife for her support of women’s groups in the state.
