Court orders Juventus to pay Cristiano Ronaldo £8.3 million unpaid wages
An Italian court has ordered Serie A top league side Juventus FC to pay the sum of £8.3 million of unpaid wages to their former Portuguese player Cristiano Ronaldo.
The prolific striker, who currently plays for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, decided to sue Juventus in September over unpaid earnings during the COVID-19 crisis.
Ronaldo has now won the legal battle against Juventus as the court ruled against the Italian giants and ordered the club to pay him £8.3 million after he deferred months of pay during the Covid pandemic.
In its ruling, the Court of Arbitration, against which Ronaldo filed an appeal, ordered Juventus to pay the sum of 9,774,166.66 euros,” plus interest and court expenses.
The amount represents the discrepancy between Ronaldo’s actual pay and his expected salary following tax and other deductions.
However, the arbitration panel decided that Ronaldo and Juventus were equally at fault for the situation, according to Gazzetta, and mandated that the team pay half of the salaries that were postponed.
After three seasons with the team, during which he made 134 appearances in black and white and scored 101 goals, the 38-year-old left in August of 2021.
