Chelsea, Arsenal miss out on Osimhen signing as PSG, Napoli near €120m agreement
English Premier League (EPL) sides; Chelsea FC and Arsenal have both missed out on the signing of Victor Osimhen, as PSG and Napoli near €120 million agreement for the player.
According to reports from the Italian publication Il Mattino, Osimhen’s transfer to the French capital is close as talks between Napoli and PSG reach a more advanced stage.
It has been said that the French team is keen to secure the signature of Osimhen to beat out keen rivals like Chelsea and Arsenal in the next transfer window.
The French team is reportedly prepared to meet Osimhen’s €120 million release clause and extend a mouthwatering four-year contract to him for €13 million (£11 million/$14 million) a season.
Osimhen has emerged as one of the leading contenders to succeed Kylian Mbappe at PSG after the Frenchman expressed to the management his intention to quit the team in the summer.
The deal is particularly devastating to Chelsea’s hopes of acquiring the Nigerian international to address their striker shortage in time for the upcoming campaign.
Chelsea might have had to withdraw from the congested race to sign Osimhen, nevertheless, due to their limited resources and the pressing need to abide by the Premier League’s Profit & Sustainability Regulations (PSR).
Several top European clubs had also shown interest in securing the services of the Super Eagles striker, who led Napoli to become Serie A champions for the first time in 33 years last season.
