Super Falcons striker Chiwendu Ihezuo signs new contract with Mexican club
Super Falcons forward Chiwendu Ihezuo has inked a contract extension with her current Mexican club, Pachuca Femenil which will last until 2027 with an option for an extra year.
The former Delta Queens player, who left the shores of Nigeria in 2016 to play professional football for Kazakhstan club side BIIK Kazygurt, has registered no fewer than 13 goals and four assists in 17 appearances for Pachuca this season.
The Mexican club of Ihezuo, (who played a crucial role in Nigeria’s qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games) are currently second with 42 points in the Clausura 2024 Liga MX Femenil.
Recall that after her performance at the 2014 FIFA U-20 World Cup, she was invited to attend a national team training camp for potential selection to the side that would compete at an African Women’s Championship in Namibia.
In March 2016, she was one of 40 players called up to prepare for the 2016 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations. She was a member of the senior national team for the 2015 All-African Games in Congo.
In November 2018, she was selected for the 2018 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations and appeared as a substitute in the final as Nigeria overcame South Africa to claim the title.
Her first international goal came in January 2019, when she scored in victory over Romania in a game played as part of the Meizhou International Women’s Football Tournament in China.
