NFF appoints Manu Garba as new Golden Eaglets head coach
The Board of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has appointed Manu Garba as the head coach of the national under-17 boys football team nicknamed the Golden Eaglets.
The reappointment of Manu Garba as the head coach of the Golden Eaglets was made known in a statement issued on Friday by Ademola Olajire, the Director of Communications of the NFF.
The former Nigerian international will now assume the position immediately and lead the team’s preparations for the WAFU B U17 Championship, which will be held in Ghana next month.
In the same capacity, the seasoned coach guided the Golden Eaglets to their fourth consecutive victory in the FIFA U-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates in 2013.
Kelechi Iheanacho, Taiwo Awoniyi, Isaac Success, Musa Mohammed, Chidiebere Nwakali, and goalkeeper Dele Alampasu were all members of Garba’s 2013 world-winning team.
The team, which lost to Cote d’Ivoire in a penalty shootout but finished second in the African U-17 Championship in Morocco, trounced Mexico 6-1 in their opening match, drew 3-3 with Sweden, and thrashed Iraq 5-0.
They defeated Uruguay 2-0 in the quarterfinals, Sweden 3-0 in the semifinals, and Iran 4-1 in the Round of 16 before defeating Mexico by the same score in the championship game to win the title.
