Abia Gov Tasks Local Communities on Agricultural Development
The government of Abia State has called on local government areas and communities to adopt the state’s new agricultural agenda with an aim to achieve food security in the state.
Governor Alex Otti gave this charge during the inauguration of the Isuikwuato Agriculture Revolution Program (ISAREP). The event, which was held recently at the Isuikwuato LGA headquarters, also marked the official flag-off of the 2024 planting season in the region.
Represented by his Special Adviser on Agriculture, Cliff Agbaeze, Governor Otti
described the inauguration and flag-off of the 2024 Isuikwuato Planting Season as an opportunity to increase support for agriculture as a business.
“I believe that this inauguration and flag-off will bring about a huge transformation in the way agricultural business is done in Isuikwuato in particular, in Abia State in general and Nigeria at large,” he said.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transforming Abia state and restoring its prominence among other states.
The governor noted that his administration has made huge progress across various sectors, which shows his commitment to transforming Abia state.
He further acknowledged the leadership of Isuikwuato Consultative Forum (ICF) for their visionary ideas that have helped to establish the program.
Governor Otti acknowledged the efforts of Chief Ray Nkemdirim and his team. He reassured them of his administration’s full support as they worked to diversify the local economy through increased investment in agriculture.
“I urge you to keep it up as I also urge other communities and LGAs to emulate this noble gesture,” he said.
“Coming at this period of national food crisis and emergency, the timing of this program couldn’t have been more auspicious and perhaps, even audacious!
“The government of Abia State strongly believes in the potential of our people; what we need to do is to unlock that potential. Abia State must feed itself, and if it unlocks its full agricultural potential, I dare say, Abia State can feed Nigeria.”
