Fatal Shooting: Suspected Cultists Claim Another Victim in Ogun

In a chilling incident on Sunday night, tragedy struck the Ijeun Tuntun area of Abeokuta, Ogun State, as suspected cultists, riding on motorcycles, ruthlessly gunned down Olumide Ifeoluwa, also known as Tescom.

According to an eyewitness, who preferred anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the event, Olumide, purportedly affiliated with the notorious Aiye cult group, was ambushed and fatally shot at a car wash where he often gathered with friends in the evenings.

The assailants, arriving on motorcycles, specifically targeted Olumide, firing a fatal shot to his head while he was in the company of others. The brazen attack instilled fear in the community, prompting residents to flee the scene to avoid being ensnared in the ensuing chaos.

Although the perpetrators fled immediately after the incident, the fear of reprisal attacks loomed large among locals. The arrival of police officers from the Ibara Divisional Headquarters to retrieve the victim’s body further underscored the gravity of the situation.

Confirming the incident, Ogun State Police Command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, acknowledged the tragic event. The killing adds to a string of recent violence attributed to cult clashes in Abeokuta, highlighting the urgent need for comprehensive measures to curb such bloodshed.

This incident coincides with the recent announcement by the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, reporting the voluntary renunciation of cult membership by 48 individuals in Sagamu, coupled with the surrender of their firearms, in a bid to stem the tide of violence in the state.
