Napoli, Club Brugge eye move for relatively unknown Nigerian striker
Italian Serie A giants Napoli FC and Belgian first division outfit Club Brugge are both eyeing a move for a relatively unknown Nigerian player, identified as Philip Porwei Otele, who plies his trade for modest Romanian club CFR Cluj.
Per sports news site Voetbal, the 24-year-old striker, who has scored 13 goals and provided seven assists in 35 league games this season for his club, is also attracting interest from Premier League side Brentford, aside from the interests shown by Napoli and Brugge.
Belgium giants, Brugge are reportedly desperate to secure the services of Otele as they prepare for the departures of Antonio Nusa and Andreas Skov Olsen next season.
According to further reports, the Port-Harcourt native’s club, CFR Cluj, earlier turned down proposals from two well-known French teams, Bordeaux FC and Lorient.
The Transylvanian team rejected the two teams’ offers, which were for 1.3 and 1.8 million euros, respectively, and asked for almost 4 million euros instead to prize their player away.
Otele has also drawn interest from Brighton & Hove Albion of the English Premier League. The Seagulls are keen to sign the talented midfielder, who trained with Arsenal’s junior team as a teenager.
