NiMet Predicts Impending Dust Haze, Thunderstorms Across Nigeria Starting Wednesday
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted a three-day period of sunshine and dust haze across Nigeria, starting from today, Wednesday, November 20, 2024.
The agency predicts moderate dust haze in the northern region, specifically in Zamfara, Katsina, Kano, Sokoto, Kebbi, Jigawa, and Kaduna, with horizontal visibility ranging from 2km to 5km.
In the North Central region, a slight dust haze is expected throughout the forecast period, while the southern region will experience sunny skies with patches of clouds in the morning hours.
However, Lagos will witness mist instead of sunshine. Later in the day, localized thunderstorms with rains are expected over parts of Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States.
Thursday’s forecast indicates slight dust haze in the northern and North Central regions, with sunny skies in the southern region. Localized thunderstorms with slight rains are predicted over parts of Lagos, Rivers, Delta, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States.
On Friday, the northern region will experience sunny skies, while the southern region will be cloudy with localized thunderstorms and moderate rain in parts of Edo, Delta, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States.
NiMet has advised the public to take necessary precautions due to suspended dust particles, particularly individuals with asthmatic health conditions and respiratory issues. Airline operators are also urged to obtain airport-specific weather reports for effective planning.
