Janne Andersson explains why he turned down opportunity to coach Super Eagles
Former Swedish national team coach Janne Andersson has explained why he turned down the chance to become the next coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
The 61-year-old tactician who spoke with the Swedish media said that he received two serious offers from Latvia and Nigeria but he chose to turn them down.
He stated that Nigeria was very persistent in employing him as a coach and there were many appealing aspects to the deal offered but the overall situation was not perfect.
“I have had many inquiries. Some I said no to, and others I listened to, but they didn’t go anywhere. I received two serious offers from Latvia and Nigeria, but I chose to reject them,” Andersson told Swedish newspaper Hallandsposten.
“Nigeria was very persistent and wanted me to take the job. There were many appealing aspects, but the overall situation wasn’t perfect. It didn’t feel 100 per cent right, and it has to feel that way for me to fully commit.”
The coach further disclosed that it will take a lot for him to consider taking up a coaching job for now because he is selective and also has a lot of other things going on for him.
“It would take a lot for me to take on a new coaching job. I am selective and have other things going on, like mentorship and board roles,” he added.
