Mikel Arteta reveals worrying Martin Odegaard injury update ahead UCL game against Atalanta

Mikel Arteta, the coach of English Premier League (EPL) side Arsenal FC has revealed a worrying update regarding the injury sustained by the club’s captain, Martin Odegaard.

The Spanish tactician who was speaking ahead of Arsenal’s UEFA Champions League (UCL) game against Atalanta said that Odegaard suffered ligament damage in his left ankle and will be sidelined for a while.

“The scans showed that he’s got some damage, especially on one of the ligaments in the ankle,” the Arsenal boss revealed ahead of the club’s Champions League opener.

“It’s something quite significant so we’re going to lose him for a while.”

The Spanish tactician also hailed Atalanta winger Ademola Lookman and his teammates ahead of the Champions League opener which will be played on Thursday.

“The club has an amazing story and what (Gian Piero) Gasperini has done is amazing. I have a big admiration for what he has done in his career, not only for Atalanta but for other clubs. He’s a very important figure and what they achieved last season was incredible and we’ll see how tomorrow goes!”

He also spoke glowingly about Atalanta’s veteran coach Gian Piero Gasperini.

“It’s very difficult to play against them! They have a particular playing style which you see week-in, week-out and it’s very challenging for opponents coming up against them. In the last two seasons, the Premier League has changed a lot, you’ve got a lot of squads that are doing similar things to them and we need to be prepared ahead of tomorrow.” Arteta noted.
