ASUU Meeting Postponed Amid Ongoing Strike Threat

A scheduled meeting between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has been postponed to August 28, according to ASUU President Emmanuel Osodeke. The meeting, initially set for Monday, was announced by the Minister of Education on Friday but has been rescheduled without a stated reason.

This development comes as ASUU threatens to embark on a strike following a National Executive Committee meeting held on August 19 at the University of Ibadan. The union is pressing for several demands, including an emergency revitalization fund for public universities, payment of outstanding earned academic allowances, and the release of withheld salaries, promotion arrears, and third-party deductions.

Other contentious issues include halting illegal recruitments, addressing the proliferation of public universities and abuse of university laws and regulations, and removing universities from the Treasury Single Account.
