Acute Food Crisis Approaches as Insurgents Now Killing Farmers, Looting Unripe Crops – Sen Ndume – AgroNigeria
Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South Senatorial District, has raised the alarm over the looming acute food crisis due to fresh attacks on farmers in northern Nigeria, saying terrorists have resorted to the killing of farmers and looting of their immature crops without being provoked.
“I want to use this medium to appeal to the military and other security agencies to intensify more efforts aimed at clearing remnants of terrorists still hibernating in Sambisa Forest and parts of Mandara Mountains bordering Cameroon Republic and Nigeria,” Ndume said.
Ndume commended Governor Babagana Umara Zulum’s efforts in rebuilding communities and the military’s sacrifices in restoring civil authority.
He also distributed agricultural inputs and empowerment materials to thousands of people, including genuine farmers, women, and youths.
“Like Oliver Twist, we may ask for more, but to be honest, Zulum has exceeded our expectations,” Ndume said, acknowledging the governor’s rebuilding initiatives.
The senator’s warning comes as insurgents continue to target farmers, posing a significant threat to food security in the region.
