Road Users Lament Lack of Streetlights on Sagamu-Ikenne Axis

The Sagamu-Ikenne road, a critical route connecting two major towns in Ogun State, has been shrouded in darkness at night, sparking concerns over safety and security. Despite the presence of streetlight poles along the highway, none of them are functional, leaving motorists and pedestrians vulnerable to accidents and criminal activities.

Residents and commuters have expressed frustration over the situation, citing the potential risks of traveling on the unlit road. “It’s like driving into a black hole,” said a frequent user of the road. “You can’t see anything, and it’s an accident waiting to happen.”

The lack of functional streetlights has also raised fears of increased crime rates, as criminals often take advantage of dark spots to carry out nefarious activities.

Authorities have been urged to address the issue promptly, ensuring the repair or replacement of the non-functional streetlights to guarantee the safety and security of road users.

“This is a critical infrastructure issue that requires immediate attention, We can’t afford to wait until someone gets hurt or worse.”

The Ogun State Government and relevant agencies have been called upon to take swift action to restore lighting on the Sagamu-Ikenne road, ensuring the well-being of citizens and promoting safe transportation.
